Pinke Pie

I couldn’t stand the thought of making ponies without making my favorite, Pinkey Pie! Like Fluttershy, she is made using the Hermonie the Unicorn pattern20130114-191140.jpg

20130114-191153.jpgHer hair was the hardest/most fun part. It was so hard to capture her bouncy personality without going overboard. Her tail ended up being a bit more fluffed out than in this picture, she needed just a bit more bounce in her tail.

I’m a little saddened that I can’t keep her, but I know she’s going to a good cause, an awesome raffle to raise money for March of Dimes. (Which, by the way, I’m in charge of and could totally use more donations for, anyone interested? Leave me a message or check out our facebook for more info).

Fluttershy

Everyone, meet Fluttershy.

I created her using a modification of the Hermione the Unicorn pattern (free on Raverly)

I’m actually really proud of this one, so bear with me while I post some progress photos, it’ll build up the suspense to the big reveal.

20130114-190902.jpgThis is the head, I actually pulled it out after the first attempt and did it again. I’m not sure why this gave me so much trouble.  My thought is because of the lack of horn. In going through the comments on the pattern I found one other person who had issues with the head, so maybe I’m not alone. In the end I double crocheted in the rows where the horn would have been attached to make he head longer, and then hid the stitching size difference under the hair later.

20130114-190926.jpgGetting some finishing touches with the legs. One of the way cool things about this pattern is the appendages are crocheted in as the pattern is work, so there wasn’t that moment of “wow I’ve finished everything and now I have to sew it all together.” I approve of that.

20130114-190945.jpgThe eye detail took a lot of time to get the proper placement. The eyes were made of felt, I’m still having some issues getting the pieces to look even on each side.

20130114-190959.jpgHere she is before the hair. Still a cute little badly right? The wings were created using a modification of the wings from a Golden Snitch pattern, I just changed the last row to make the feather divisions more prominent.

And, drum roll please……

The hair was actually the hardest part, getting it to look not bald but not too thick at the same time, who knew right?

I wish I could keep her, but she’ll only be around until March when she’s going to be donated to a raffle to raise money for March of Dimes. I hope her new family likes her as much as I do.

Also, I know a lot of my readers are awesome crafty people, so I’m asking you all to consider donating to the March of Dimes Raffle. It’s a really good cause and if you have a business it’s a great way to advertise. Check out our facebook event for more information: https://www.facebook.com/events/150567895096795/

Burple the Turtle

First, if you are not following Blanket of Doom on Tumblr, you totally should. I’m being a very nice person and letting my sister have access to it, and since this is the same sister who manages my etsy shop whilst med school slowly pulls me down a long sleep deprived tunnel, she kindly posts my creations as well.

Today when I logged on I saw this, the story of Burple the Turtle.

Burple is a little handmade crocheted turtle, the only one left of his kind. All of his similar pattern and color turtles were sold!

Poor Burple, an octipus is trying to eat him.

Burple is a pariah when it comes to the other turtles.

Even giant kitty doesn’t like Burple!

Help Burple find a home!

That’s all for now. One more exam and I’m free for the Holiday break, and I have some awesome plans up my sleeve. Working on a My Little Pony themed basket for a fundraiser for March of Dimes! So stay tuned for more awesome and doom!

Pokemon First Gen Starter Blanket

Yup, you read the title correctly. It’s finished at last!! (and listed on etsy)

Drum roll please……

Yup, behold the glory that is the Pokemon blanket. It’s pictured on a queen sized bed for size references.

And the beautiful back. Yup, fully reversible, which is why I crochet most of my blankets these days.

I have a few new projects in the works, hopefully I’ll have a bit more time in the upcoming weeks to post a bit more. I’m always looking for new ideas, so fill the comments section with suggestions!

Pokemon Blanket, Almost Finished!

Good news everyone!

Finals are over, which means two weeks of sleeping, crafting, and eating turkey.

“mmm turkey” she drools.

Oh where were we, oh yea, so in addition to having free time, I also have managed to almost complete my Pokemon blanket!

Now all I have to do is put the squares together. Yay!

And yes, it will be available on etsy in the coming weeks.

Infinity Scarf

Friday I had decided to challenge myself to create a scarf in half an hour. Well that didn’t work out too well. I wasn’t happy with the size and the length, so about half way into the project I decided to start over.

This is what resulted: 20121001-142925.jpg

This one is loosely based off the same pattern. And by loosely, I mean loosely.

I ended up using a size P hook and a foundation chain of 70 stitches. This made it long enough to wrap around my neck twice comfortably. I didn’t do the ribbing that the pattern called for, mostly because I got distracted while I was working it and was too lazy to pull it out again.

All in all, it took about an hour and a half to work. Had it been smaller I could have done it in the 30 minutes, so perhaps the challenge isn’t failed after all.

I’m going to keep my eye out to see if I can find more 30 minute projects, this was kinda fun.
